“The first two thirds of this felt like well-crafted but slightly standard fantasy fare — coming of age, political intrigue, will-they-won’t-they, maybe some magic. However, the last third really sets it apart. No spoilers, but damn, no punches were pulled. I went into this thinking it was a standalone, but it very much appears like there will at least be a sequel. I was sad to see my idea for the ending didn’t come to fruition, but I will be picking up any sequel to this if one comes out.”
