“This book didn’t end up being what I thought it was going to be. Mead divided her book into the same title headings as Middlemarch. And I think the intent was to draw parallels between what happens in those chapters of Middlemarch to what happens in Mead’s life and Eliot’s life. But the end result is fairly confusing… going back and forth, describing events in each of their lives out of order.
The book summary said this was part memoir and part reporting and part biography. I guess that is accurate, but I can’t help feeling it missed the mark in all three areas by trying to do too much. Then again, maybe part of my problem was listening to the audiobook. Perhaps a physical copy might have been easier to follow.”
