Publisher Description

Soon to be a major motion picture.

This ENHANCED DIGITAL EDITION features TONS of TOTALLY AWESOME ’80s bonus materials—including Satanic Panic educational pamphlets, a do-it-yourself exorcism cheat sheet, a Spotify playlist of awesome ’80s tunes, animated cover artwork, and much more!

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, this unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist blends teen angst and unspeakable horrors into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.

The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries—and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

Thumbs Up“Entertaining, if not especially deep. Admittedly, I am pretty much over teenybopper protagonists and high school drama. I expected the plot to have a lot more of a horror vibe, tbh. If you are looking for something genuinely terrifying and nerve wracking, keep looking. Doubt that many mature readers will find this a satisfying read, but certainly PG enough for mature adolescents to enjoy—although there is some pretty graphic gore! Still, most kids today are exposed through tv and should not be shocked.”
Anxious Face with sweat“Kinda graphic, but kept me reading. I love how the chapter titles are 80s songs and I'd play that song while reading 🎶 To this day I listen to 'Against All Odds' by Phil Collins a little too much. I was already a fan of 80s music and I liked discovering more from this book.”

Thinking Face“Pastor Lemon or what have you really did not sit right with me and the comment about not touching Gretchen because of the temptation of Lust was weird and I HATE that she went back and apologized to him!?!?!?! That ruined the story for me. Overall it was fun but I wouldn't pick it up again!”
