Publisher Description

A snowbound train. A murder no one saw coming. And a former detective with one last case. On this Christmas Eve, the holiday cheer ends in blood.

From acclaimed author Alexandra Benedict comes Murder on the Christmas Express, a chilling holiday locked-room mystery that blends golden-age suspense with a sharp, modern edge. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Ruth Ware, and Tana French.

As the sleeper train to the Scottish Highlands plows into a blizzard and grinds to a halt, former Met Detective Roz Parker realizes the real danger isn't outside. It's onboard.

When a passenger is found dead, Roz is pulled into one final case. But time is running out. With the passengers trapped, cut off, and surrounded by secrets, someone is hiding a deadly truth.

This isn't the Christmas journey they planned. It's a race to uncover a killer before another passenger falls.

Praise for Murder on the Christmas Express:

"Strong prose and a bevy of plausible suspects keep things intriguing. Readers willing to embrace this Christmas story's jagged edges are in for a ripping mystery."— Publishers Weekly

Murder on the Christmas Express Reviews

3.0
Loudly Crying Face“Wow. This book was so emotional; I really felt every emotion of the characters and related to them so much.”
“"Make lots of mistakes. Make them frequently. And do not give up who you are to be someone else, or someone you think you should be. It never works. Find your strengths and use them. You have many. No one can figure things out like you can." This should be a 4 star but It wasn't as 4 star as my other 4 stars... so 3.5 overall. I was really unsure about this one because the reviews are so mixed, but I just couldn't leave that cover on the shelf. Shoutout for whoever designed this - although it definitely gave a false pretence that this was a cosy Christmas mystery... This was NOT a cosy, Christmas mystery - nor was it the crazy thriller I was craving. This was darker than I expected (please check your trigger warnings lovelies) But the story did have a slight festive feel (lots of Christmas karaoke) and those plot twists made up for any lack of suspense. Majority of the story felt like we were all just going through the motions a bit, but I can't forget about those 4 pages in the middle where I was GAGGED. Although a lot of the twists and reveals later felt irrelevant after the context and plot developed, which was disappointing. But my god was I sat (actually no, I STOOD. I gasped, jaw was floored) for those crazy twists. I didn't really connect to any of the characters. But Roz was definitely interesting to read about and had a lot of depth shown in her flashbacks, dreams, and the subplot of her daughter. There was a nice mix of character types, I think there's someone for everyone in this story - but the cast was just far too big. I read this book in a couple sittings and still didn't have a clue who most people were or what their relevance to the story was. I think a much smaller cast would've made the whole plot a lot more suspenseful and lead to a few more tense, 'edge of your seat' moments throughout. The addition of the killer POV chapters was a cool touch. I'd like to go back and reread them all now, knowing what I know, and see how everything fits together and even if there are any clues! Also some really short chapters that always felt like a reward to read. Overall an enjoyable, quick murder mystery. Not much suspense or tension, but some crazy plot twists to keep the drama going. A festive read but maybe not one I'd curl up with on Christmas Day. 'Cheese was for life, not just for Christmas'”
