“'We took the goddamn case. I wouldn't have spent three chapters on it if we hadn't. We're all busy people here.'
Excellently written hard-boiled mystery with smart and snappy dialogue. Set in the 1940s, I can almost hear the Transatlantic American accent from the movies of that era. The writing is stellar and the characters are scrappy and jump off the page. There's a major cliffhanger of an ending that has me eager to start the next in this fantastic series.
'I do not advocate tampering with a crime scene. I certainly don't advocate walking off with evidence. There's a lot of activities that I don't advocate but sometimes participate in and you're just going to have to come to terms with that.'”
“didnt love the cop stuff & how long Parker keeps things from Lillian, but loved the development of Holly and Will. Will deserves nothing more than to pathetically pine for a girl while staying firmly outside her polycule. The double-murder is v interesting and a great twist. LOVED the bits with Quincannon and learning more about Lillian’s background. Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than Lillian filled with righteous anger.”
