Publisher Description

When you think of Mrs. Claus, do you imagine a quiet North Pole homebody who finds complete fulfillment in baking cookies, petting reindeer and crafting toys alongside elves? How about a magic-wielding ice goddess, or a tough-as-nails Valkyrie? Or maybe an ancient fae of dubious intentions, or a well-meaning witch? Could Mrs. Claus be a cigar-smoking Latina, or a crash-landed alien? Within these pages Mrs. Claus is a hero, a villain, a mother, a spacefarer, a monster hunter, and more. The only thing she decidedly is not, is a sidekick.

It’s Mrs. Claus’ turn to shine and she is stepping out of Santa’s shadow and into the spotlight in these fourteen spectacular stories that make her the star! Featuring original short stories by Laura VanArendonk Baugh, C.B. Calsing, DJ Tyrer, Jennifer Lee Rossman, Kristen Lee, Randi Perrin, Michael Leonberger, Andrew Wilson, Ross Van Dusen, MLD Curelas, Maren Matthias, Anne Luebke, Jeff Kuykendall, and Hayley Stone.

““Most humans are not capable of love in its purest sense—except at Christmas. That is when all the goodwill toward men peeks through.” A quote from “Moves Like Jagger” by Randi Perrin I enjoyed this anthology so so so much. “Mrs. Claus: Not the Fairy Tale They Say” is a fantastic collection of short stories about Mrs. Claus. It has something for everyone; humor, fantasy, sci fi, magic, dark stories of insanity and oh so much more. It was super easy and quick to read, the total book is only about 220 pages and some of the stories I could have read as a full length novel. Two of my favorite stories are: Wight Christmas by Laura VanArendonk Baugh is a story about ALL of the holidays and I smiled really hard when I saw my favorite holiday of all represented. If only “Talk Like a Pirate Day” was celebrated throughout the world, what a fun day that would be. Moves Like Jagger by Randi Perrin had so many great quotes and it was super current in its telling. Honestly, all of the stories are my favorite. Each evoked a different feeling or emotion and in ALL of them, I was on Mrs. Claus’s side!!!! I would rate each individual story with 5 stars so this review would be a 14 X 5 stars = 70 star review.”
“Mrs. Claus: Not the Fairy Tale They Say edited by Rhonda Parrish was a great anthology that really showcased how different our images of a certain lady in red can be when given the freedom to think beyond the fat guy in a red suit. Each of these stories were a unique interpretation of Mrs. Claus, making her into everything from a villain to an alien to even a member of the Valkyrie, and like most anthologies while the majority of the stories were good there were some that just needed a little something more to get them there for me. I personally liked “Desperately Seeking Santa” by DJ Tyrer the best. The way that he portrayed Mrs. Claus as the savior of Christmas in this story was great. I would have liked to have a bit more of a backstory as to the goblins and how they came to be or how they got ahold of Father Christmas but the story was just enough that I really enjoyed it. I do enjoy getting to read anthologies, as they allow you to read several new authors in a single book, and showcases the best work from these authors so that they can get exposure to a whole slew of new readers. After reading this book I have found a new appreciation for Mrs. Claus as a separate person from the entire Christmas idea and let her shine on her own.”
