“Long before Edward Snowden became a recognized name in the United States, Daniel Ellsberg was arguably one of the most famous whistleblower/traitor in our country's history. Most Dangerous tells the story of how he went from Harvard student to US Marine to trusted Pentagon advisor to the person who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the press.
Sheinkin tells not only Ellsberg's personal story, but also relates a reasonably detailed history of American involvement in Vietnam. While this book may not whet the appetite of serious students of that conflict, it is a great text to introduce students to something beyond what textbooks will give them. This book could also lead to discussions of other topics, such as the First Amendment, the treatment of whistleblowers, and privacy issues.
Ray Porter's narration is very good, reading with as much inflection and intonation as nonfiction text allows. His portrayal of both Johnson's and Nixon's voices are uncanny in their similarity to the former presidents.
A definite recommendation to students.”
