Monday's Not Coming

By Tiffany D. Jackson
Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

"Jackson’s characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl’s disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth.

Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried.

When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.

As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?

“Wow. What a heartbreaking story. I was engrossed in Claudia’s story from the very beginning, and oh my, the way it frustrated, hurt, and broke me!! I knew something happened to Monday based on the title, but going on the journey with Claudia to find out exactly what happened, was haunting. One thing I can say is every single adult pissed me off. Absolutely NO ONE took Claudia seriously. And if she was home for the summer, imagine how different everything would have been. Her parents frustrated me, too. It’s clear they loved her, but they didn’t try to truly listen to her or understand her— and just how urgent this situation was. Which made the funeral even more frustrating to read. Because where were all of them when she was MISSING. Their love for one another, Claudia and Monday, was beautiful. They needed each other in different ways, and it was beautiful. I also LOVED Michael’s character and how he was patient with her, and helped her through everything. This book was amazing. It’s going to stay with me forever. But wow. Claudia went to the teachers, nurse, police, friends, family, and absolutely no one listened to her cry for help and that hurts. Devastating.”
