“I enjoyed parts of this book. It’s the second time I have read it, the last must be thirty years ago soon after it came out. Then I see that it has been made into a TV series so I thought I would read it again before seeing it. It is an intriguing story set in the darkness and coldness of Scandinavia. However, it was not a page turner for me, and took several weeks to read. Perhaps what stands out most of all were the descriptions of snow and ice and the reflections on Greenland and life as a Greenlander in Danish society. Now when Greenland has hit the news because of apparent American interests there it is fascinating to read about this (to me) little known land. The setting amidst seemingly endless ice and snow is dark and the story is as much a mystery as a crime thriller. Beautifully written certainly. Will be interesting to see the screenplay.”
