“Akin to the rushed and procrastinated ending of a college student’s History paper, “Milk! A 10,000-Year Food Fracas” starts off strong and finishes weak.
While I enjoyed learning about Milk and its long history, I believe Mark Kurlansky’s other works were far better written. The progression of the history jumped around quite a bit to the point that it was difficult to follow, and retain information. Towards the end of the book it felt as if all the components that Kurlansky wanted to talk about, but didn’t have enough content on, were thrown together in whatever paragraph sounded best.
I did, however, thoroughly enjoy reading about ice cream and its global takeover, and Fidel Castro’s obsession with milk, (and gelato).”
