“So confession time. I'm relatively new to Mickey Spillane/Mike Hammer. I've only read a few others, which were good, just didn't take hold of me like this book did. This one really set the hook. Now I will read the whole series. (Tip: Mr. Collins has a chronology or the series in the back of this book.) Thank you Paperback Warrior for turning me onto the old masters Spillane, Westlake, Block, Collins, Chandler, etc.
The book is written by both Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins. Mr. Collins finished the novel post humously for Mr. Spillane. In my opinion he did an excellent job. Seemless transitioning, I could never tell which writer I was reading.
The book is short and fast paced. Lots of shootouts and sexy ladies. The mystery component is really good, not the best mystery I've ever read, but excellent and well worth reading. The 180 some odd pages make this book fly by at a break neck pace. The first 20 pages felt like they give you whiplash.
Overall I give this book the highest recommendation. Definitely one of the best books I've read this year.”
