“"The trouble with most of you is that you have been looking without seeing—gazing but not observing. The objects around you have been out of your mental focus. If you will but change your mental focus, by means of will and attention, you will be able to cure yourself of the careless methods of seeing and observing that have been hindrances to your success. You have been blaming it on your memory, but the fault is with your perception. How can the memory remember, when it is not given anything in the way of clear impressions?" - William Walker Atkinson This book is literally what the title says. Somehow, I really don’t know how to start this reflection—I’m just typing my stream of thoughts right now. If I were to describe what Atkinson was trying to impart to the reader, it’s “awareness.” By being aware of every minute detail, using our physical senses to capture what’s presented, we can transform a memory into a significant one, making it easy to remember and retrieve. It all makes sense now—why I still remember who pooped in our class back in the day. I’m deliberately avoiding pronouns to conceal that person’s identity. Does it matter now? 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry. Let’s try to deconstruct it—or relive it? 🤣🤣🤣 Oh, this is quite problematic. How do I deconstruct it without using pronouns? I’ll do it anyway to prove I read this book. 🤣🤣🤣 The memory: someone pooped in our class back in the day. I’ll paint the picture based on what I remember. It started with a smell—an awful yet familiar one to every living body—inside the classroom (first sense: smell). Everyone complained in unison, alerting the teacher (second sense: hearing). The teacher asked who pooped. It’s unclear if someone pointed, a hand was raised, or tears just flowed, but I remember crying. After confirming the culprit, I saw shame in that person’s eyes, like that person was cornered and didn’t know what to do (third sense: sight). The memory solidified when the chair was removed from the classroom to be cleaned outside. Through the jalousie window, I watched strong water pressure blast slimy, yellowish poop off the wooden chair. I’m sorry if I dragged you down this memory lane. I know a laugh or two might make you feel like a terrible person, but you’re laughing anyway, so let’s thank “that person” for pulling us out of our stressful reality for a moment as we relive it. The book is well-structured, split into two categories. The first explains how memory works and gives instructions on using senses to embed memories in your brain or subconscious. The second covers other uses of memory, good and bad. I loved the key pointers at the end of each topic. My questions: - Why did Atkinson write this book? What sparked his interest in memory? - Was the section on occultism and sorcery using mental planes just research, or was it his initial idea? 📖12.book.25 🗓️20/06 - 30/06 #MemoryMagic 📚 #PoopStoryVibes 🤣 #AwarenessWin 🤓 #BookJourney 🚀 #WaveOfThoughts 😎”
