“I went into this story very intrigued and super interested in the idea of a mystery surrounding roadside memorials. This is a long book, but I found the pacing to be pretty good as we follow along on the MCs’ roadtrip. However, and I hate to say it, but I did not love the final destination…once it’s revealed what is happening, I was disappointed by the amount of time already invested to get there. I’d equate it to the experience I had reading Sager’s The House Across the Lake. So, if we had similar feelings on that book, maybe you can catch on to my meaning here.
Having immensely enjoyed a couple of this author’s other works, I am bummed that this book did not equally hit the mark. But, it is a very imaginative foray into horror that uses the familiar symbol of roadside crosses (which already evoke feelings of macabre curiosity and a sense of sadness) to try to unsettle your sanity.”Amanda G

About Richard Chizmar
Richard Chizmar is the coauthor (with Stephen King) of the New York Times bestselling novella Gwendy’s Button Box and Gwendy’s Final Task, and the solo novella Gwendy’s Magic Feather.
