“A go-to book for any baker. Mary talks to those who are new to baking, but doesn’t dumb it down so much the seasoned baker can’t learn a thing or two. Before you even get to the recipes, you know every gadget, gizmo, and pan which will be used and how it will be used. She provides an in-depth conversion chart for those who bake in a different measuring method than provided in the book. Because Mary is English, I expected I would need to convert the recipes, but was pleasantly surprised they are in US measurements. As for the recipes, they measure from super simple and basic, to extravagant. In each section she provides you with these options, but they don’t progress from skill level within the section.
I was excited to see a basic chewy brownie recipe included. It mirrors one I owned decades ago that I lost and have spent forever trying to replicate to no avail. I learned the difference between tea cakes and muffins (they look the same to these American eyes). And found a real easy recipe for English Muffins. I want to try her chocolate chip cookies and her chocolate cake (without all the decorations). I was bummed there weren’t pictures for every recipe, but I guess that would have added 50 more colored pages, more or less, adding to the price of an already spendy cookbook. So I understand why they don’t have them, but it would have been a nice addition.
Do I think this book is worth the cost? Yes. Whether you want to learn how to bake, or are consider yourself a skilled baker, the Mary Berry’s Baking Bible Revised and Updated, will help you stretch your baking wings. I do not own her original book, so I cannot tell you if you get so much more that it’s worth the investment even if you own her first Baking Bible.
I received an eARC of #MaryBerrysBakingBibleRevisedUpdated from #NetGalley in lieu of my honest opinion.”
