Martinez's Pregnant Wife Reviews

3.0
“3.5 stars Even though this book had the elements that I enjoy from a romance novel, I wasn’t a hundred percent feeling this one. I didn’t get all the feels that I expected to get especially considering the storyline, which could have been very angsty and really, really intense and very emotional. There were glimmers there especially in the beginning in the story, but then it petered out for me and started to really slow down plus was a lot of repetition going on in the story. It was the same argument between Max and Lisa for a majority of the book. He believed he couldn’t love while she loved him with every fiber of her being and she wanted to show him that by loving him that it would be in the hopes of him loving her even though he was completely upfront about that he couldn’t. And with this particular book, it felt like she was trying so hard to change him, and it didn’t sit right with me. I know heroines in these types of novels hope that the men in their life will change and love them wholeheartedly, and usually that doesn’t bother me because they are more subtle about it or don’t realize that was in fact what they are trying to do, but in Lisa’s case she did know what she was doing and was very in your face about it. I didn’t like that at all. I just thought she was pushing way too hard, and then getting really upset when he didn’t meet those expectations. Like I said he was very honest with his feelings and never sneaky or manipulative about it. It felt very genuine from him while I felt she was forcing this him into things that he wasn’t ready for at that time. I mean I get that he hurt and her feelings, and all the pain that went along with it when he told her that their marriage was a mistake and he could never love her. I get why she was hurt by that and tried to keep her guard up around him so he wouldn’t see she still loved him, but at the same time she was just a tad annoying because of all the pushing that she did and then being let down by him in the end. It just didn’t sit right with me, and that was really where the book went downhill from there. There were some very romantic scenes in the story, but for me they almost felt forced and didn’t flow as I would have liked. Yes, most of the romantic scenes involved them in some types of bedroom activity that just showed what they had most going on in their relationship was physical only. Yes, it did show that he cared about her feelings, which I believed that from the beginning, by doing these things for her especially the Christmas cabin, but again even though it was suppose to be romantic ,it didn’t feel romantic. I don’t know how else to describe it but in that way. I think a big reason for me was that I wasn’t so much gun-ho about them as a couple. Sometimes I liked them together then other times I didn’t. I was more against them as a couple than for, which was probably why I couldn’t get into the romantic scenes between them. The love scenes for me were just okay. I know they had this passionate relationship, but again I was getting the feels from it. It felt just very blah and uninteresting. I would have been more interested in seeing a more detailed love scene from the prologue because it just felt like that was a lot more charged than the other scenes. I was more interested in that scene. Let’s put it away. I was just underwhelmed and not satisfied with the love scenes. Again that could have be doing to the fact that I wasn’t a hundred percent for this couple. There was just nothing special about the scenes. Now from this review it sounded like I hated this book, but I didn’t. What I enjoyed most about the story was definitely the beginning of the story where the setup came into play. Those moments just felt so much more raw than the rest of the story, and I was just more into the intense emotions going on at that time. I thought this was really going to be this angsty second chance love stories that I had really started to dig this last year or so. So I was excited by the beginning because it was heading in a really good direction. I really liked the tension between the couple and just what was going on an emotional level with all the past hurts and such. It had the great foundation and seemed to be heading in a positive direction that I was disappointed that it didn’t keep in that direction. I haven’t found the greatest luck with this author. There always seemed to be something missing from her stories or I just don’t connect to the characters or the stories. I don’t think it’s necessarily the storylines because some of the setups like this one was really great and had all the potential in the world that would have made for an amazing story. There’s just something that I am missing from her writing style that I don’t feel the total emotional impact of the story and its characters. And like it this one, it tends to happen in the middle of the book where it suddenly looses momentum for me. In this case, I felt the momentum was lost when they continued to but heads over the same issues that just kept repeating and repeating over and over again, and that was not very compelling. It didn’t feel natural and at times felt forced. Plus I wasn’t happy about Lisa and Max as a couple to be honest. And I felt like that with other couples that I have read from this author. Just for whatever reason I don’t connect to them, and I don’t know why that is. I needed to be sucked into the story of Max and Lisa all the way through and not just in the beginning. I needed the beginning to carry throughout the story then it would have been so much more enjoyable for me. However I have read worse books in the past, and this was in no way a hated book where it was unreadable and I couldn’t get through. I was just missing something from the love story of Lisa and Max that I just wasn’t getting. I needed more feels. And just more in general. Mostly I just needed more connection throughout the book and not just the beginning.”
