Mall American Girl: An Independence Day Romantic Novella at the Mall

By Sarah Robinson
Mall American Girl: An Independence Day Romantic Novella at the Mall by Sarah Robinson digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Oh, say can you see these sparks flying in this 4th of July-themed standalone short romance when singer/songwriter Kamar Jaziri meets the beautiful and undefeated Independence Games champion in a red, white, and blue meet-cute over a plate of hot dogs.

Summer Darby, owner of Summer's Sun Spray Tan Salon, is a winner. The end. Every goal she's had, she's crushed and her streak isn't about to come to an end now even though the games have changed. She doesn't care how much the new singer in the pavilion lights her firecracker—she won't be distracted by his star-spangled salute.

When Kamar Jaziri isn't studying in graduate school, he's working as a singer/songwriter at small gigs around the local college town—including a recent hire at Yule Heights Shopping Mall. All he wants is a taste of freedom as he chases his American dreams, and that means he doesn't have time for romance or dating. And he definitely doesn't have time for the way Summer Darby looks at him.

Cue the sparklers as these blue collar titans of business clash in a comedic battle for independence—and love.

“3.5 stars Cute, sweet, and summer fun filled love. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60636123.Mall_American_Girl by https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7738947.Sarah_Robinson is the fourth in the At the Mall Series and was a cute summer romance. Kamar was a singer/songwriter and college student who had to work over the 4th of July holiday. This was his first holiday festival at the mall and one of the tasks he had to complete was a hot dog eating contest, which is where he challenged Summer, the undefeated champ. Will Summer and Kamar be too distracted with each other to focus on their goals or will there be a winner in the end? I don’t usually go for holiday romances, but it was nice to have one that was for the 4th of July. Most tend to happen around Nov, Dec and Jan, so thanks for the summer fun. I liked that it was a food eating contest and lots of games that got them connected at the mall. I loved the diverse sexuality within the story; having a pansexual character was refreshing. It was a first for me, so seeing how Summer and Kamar navigated their love interests was awesome. There wasn’t a whole lot of steam, but the tension was there in small doses. It allowed for the overall story to be more sweet and cute. Additionally, it was great seeing a multiracial couple and a curvy lady. The focus of both characters was great, that money vs love situation and both being extremely hard working. Between the instant attraction and the voices in their heads telling them to focus on their work, one was bound to be ignored. Although the overall story was cute and had a good build-up, it didn’t feel super complete. There were also some unresolved plot lines, like what happened with the ex-girlfriend. She seemed to have a pretty important part in the story but then was suddenly gone and the focus went straight to Kamar and Summer. Maybe adding an extra chapter or two, could resolve the loose ends. If you love to dive straight into a story without having to read a whole novel, this novella is for you. Also, if you are into diverse couples, holiday romance, and some comedy, then you’re in for a treat!
