Short story collections will always be hard for me to rate because it's not just a critique of one idea and whether its execution was effective but a range of ideas from multiple voices. The overall rating will always never fully represent my time with each idea so that's something I'll always struggle with individually. All this to say that; there were highs and lows but I was able to finish this whole book and not DNF because there was enough for me to enjoy between the lulls. These are my thoughts on each one from best to less enjoyable. The top ... are what I would recommend you to check out. Brother rifle- the predatory nature of clinical trials and the effects of combat on soldiers. No crumbs were left, I ate good here. Loved ever second of it so much so I could write a whole essay about the themes in this. If you pick this up, this is a must read. 5”
