“3.5 ⭐️ I liked this book just not nearly as much as the first one.
Eliza and Alexander were separated from each other a lot due to his work and the war, which is historically accurate I just wish the author would have conveyed this fact and then got on with it yk? Or focused more on Alexander’s work (which I find fascinating and entertaining personally) instead of focusing on Eliza always missing him and him coming home late.
I think that was a good addition but didn’t need to be there more than once for us to get the idea. Dr La Cruz could have given one or two detailed scenes about her missing him (for instance the one where they got in a fight over him coming home late, which I ate up, love her) and that would have been great, but instead we have at least 4 and it just made the book drag a bit.
There were also times when we’d have talk about work in italics which was just…idk. It was definitely important to the story but I wish it was put in more of a ‘how this affected the people at the time’ way, instead of just stating what happened. I can’t lie that part really lost me.
I did really like the court case and all that went on with Alex fighting it, I wish we could have had so much more of that! I’m hoping the next book will focus on his creating America’s bank, the Declaration of Independence, and proposing his idea for a new form of government! I also likes Ralph Earl and hearing about his art and alcoholism”
