“prose and story telling was really nice. However the causal mentions of assaults and grooming were not great. Understand it was written in a different time but those reasoning significantly reduced my rating of the book.”

“Gabriel Garcia Marquez never disappoints. This was an amusing read from start to finish and I followed Fermina and Florentino's life with similar avid interest. The translator did an amazing job in formulating Gabriel Garcia Marquez's writing with his voice and essence, dripping with so much vivid descriptions that I felt some form of nostalgia to a place I've never been before. I hope to read this in Spanish at some point!
The only thing that made me stop in my tracks from truly enjoying the read was his relationship with América Vincuña at the end. I can't say for sure if this is just a "product of its time" or if it was meant to scandalize readers but nonetheless, not pleasant. The only good it did story-wise was establish Florentino's character for me.”
