INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

"Love stories by and about marginalized women . . . The heroines are strong and sure . . . Babalola’s writing shines.” — New York Times Book Review

"Absolutely intoxicating." — Casey McQuiston, New York Times bestselling author of Red, White, and Royal Blue and One Last Stop

A vibrant debut collection of love stories from the bestselling author of Honey and Spice, retelling myths, folktales, and histories from around the world.

A high-born Nigerian goddess, who has been beaten down and unappreciated by her gregarious lover, longs to be truly seen. A young businesswoman attempts a great leap in her company, and an even greater one in her love life. A powerful Ghanaian spokeswoman is forced to decide whether she should uphold her family’s politics or be true to her heart.

In her debut collection, internationally acclaimed writer Bolu Babalola retells the most beautiful love stories from history and mythology with incredible new detail and vivacity. Focusing on the magical folktales of West Africa, Babalola also reimagines Greek myths, ancient legends from the Middle East, and stories from long-erased places.

With an eye towards decolonizing tropes inherent in our favorite tales of love, Babalola has created captivating stories that traverse across perspectives, continents, and genres. Love in Color is a celebration of romance in all its many splendid forms.

“I am in love with every single word Bolu Babalola has written. So rarely is love expressed this richly, this vividly, or this artfully.” —Candice Carty-Williams, international bestselling author of Queenie

Thinking Face“Unfortunately this was not for me. I was expecting romances but they were more of romantic stories that didn't necessarily have an hea where the couple was concerned. I think i would have been more invested if I knew more of the stories but the ones I did know were my favorite either. A few of them were very cute and I enjoyed them but unfortunately not enough to raise my rating. So many of the stories didn't feel like romances until the very end and then it was just over. Idk I'm really sad I didn't like this one.”

“This was so fun and easy to read. I am a romantasy girly but this book made my smile in the contemporary romances too! I really enjoyed these omen-centred retelling of diverse myths. Each story is based on a strong woman and how love shines a light in their own circumstances, teaching us readers a lesson too. You have fantasy and contemporary stories in here. They are mainly cis-relationships, with one hinting to be queer love story, so there could be better representation in this aspect. But overall, I enjoyed the book and the stories, particularly Nefertiti, Siya, and Yaa. I need her to write them into novels!”
“4.25⭐️ This was such a beautifully-written and evocative collection of romantic short stories! I think it’s really impressive the way that this author adapted myths into these modern stories, and honestly the way that she wrote about love was so magical and transcendent. I of course preferred some stories to others, whether it was due to the characters, the plot, or the nature of the romance, but there was not one story that I didn’t enjoy or where the connection between the main characters was not palpable and practically jumping off the page. I also liked that not every story ended in the characters like spending forever together; in stories where the characters met for the first time, and such an ending would feel rushed and unrealistic, the main focus was the depth of the initial connection and the excitement and magic that comes with something new. I definitely recommend this anthology, and this author even though I haven’t read her other work; her writing really is stunning!”
