Publisher Description

After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words…how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong?

The story of the heart can never be unwritten.

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“I love a cheesy romance novel. Elliot and Mace's story is so cute. Boy meets girl, girl ghosts boy for 11 years and they happen to randomly meet again. Elliot breaking up with his girlfriend after running into Mace felt a bit rushed, but again he knew deep down that Mace was his soulmate and so did she. Highly recommend this book if you love a light, cheesy read.”

Thinking Face“This was a 3.5 star book for me. Although I enjoyed how it all wrapped up in the end, I just felt like it was pretty predictable and drawn out. I almost didn’t want to find out the reason why the two main characters stopped talking by the time I got to the end. I also found the main character to be pretty unlikable and easily fit into the “emotionally unavailable, i’m not like other girls” trope. It was an easy read and the love interest was likable which is why it wasn’t a complete waste.”

Slightly Smiling Face“I think this one lived up to the hype! It had all the feels. I guessed both big reveals before they happened but I don’t think it was predictable. Everything unfolded as you went so it was still heartbreaking & surprising. It dealt with loss & tragedy in many forms & beautifully captured so much of the unified human experience. First time actually liking a second chance romance! Overall, it was a very sweet, coming of age, friends-to-lovers story!”
