Tommy Dees is in the weeds—restaurant speak for beyond overwhelmed. He’s been working as a server at Sunset Estates retirement community to get the experience he needs to attend one of the best culinary schools in the world. And to make his application shine, he also needs a letter of recommendation from his sadistic manager. But in exchange for the letter, Tommy has to meet three conditions—including training the new hire.

What he doesn’t expect is for the newbie to be an old crush: Gabe, with the dimples and kind heart, who Tommy fell for during summer camp at age eleven and then never saw again. Unfortunately, Gabe doesn’t remember Tommy at all. The training proves distracting as old feelings resurface and the universe seems to be conspiring against them.

“If there's something I've learned that I like about Erik J. Brown, it's that his books are never just one thing. This wasn't a cute fluffy romance novel. This was a compelling, realistic story about the ways in which life can throw us all sorts of curve balls, and that plan can change and that's okay. Your first crush might not turn out to be your lifelong partner, and the school you thought you always wanted to go to might not be the one you end up at, and that's okay too. This book is about finding the joy in life regardless of the circumstances you find yourself in, and I've enjoyed that aspect of all Erik's books.”
“I am extremely torn by this book. What I liked: - Ava, Roni, Natalie & especially Brad. Gorgeous side characters + Al & Willa were brilliant - A love for baking & cooking - the ending yes thank you for doing what i was hoping happened the whole time, it still actually shocked me - I enjoyed the writing style & pacing was great - LGBTQ rep on coming out, older queer characters & abuse in queer relationships What i liked less: - You cannot give me a romance book with a character who loves to cook and not give me a super cute baking scene!!! - Why did we make an older gay man appear predatory?! even if only for a "joke" - I cannot stand a cheating trope - more Brad!! - the blurb was very misleading in the end Overall it shot straight from a 2-3 ☆ to a 3.5 because the ending was fab & I think a lot of other reviews are fairly harsh”
“The MC Thomas is so annoying but not all the way unlikable since he has some self awareness lol. I think I blame Malinda Lo but I loveeee me a love story where they don’t end up together 😛. So good!”
