Publisher Description

In four new novellas, Christina Henry returns to the world of Alice and Red Queen, where magic runs as freely as secrets and blood.

Lovely Creature
In the New City lives a girl with a secret: Elizabeth can do magic. But someone knows her secret--someone who has a secret of his own. That secret is a butterfly that lives in a jar, a butterfly that was supposed to be gone forever, a butterfly that used to be called the Jabberwock...

Girl in Amber
Alice and Hatcher are just looking for a place to rest. Alice has been dreaming of a cottage by a lake and a field of wildflowers, but while walking blind in a snowstorm she stumbles into a house that only seems empty and abandoned...

When I First Came to Town
Hatcher wasn't always Hatcher. Once, he was a boy called Nicholas, and Nicholas fancied himself the best fighter in the Old City. No matter who fought him he always won. Then his boss tells him he's going to battle the fearsome Grinder, a man who never leaves his opponents alive...

The Mercy Seat
There is a place hidden in the mountains, where all the people hate and fear magic and Magicians. It is the Village of the Pure, and though Alice and Hatcher would do anything to avoid it, it lies directly in their path...

“"Nobody else will get you home. But you can't escape from shadows or pain. You only find new ones. It's better, I think, not to try to escape them at all but to accept that they will be there, and to remember that good things happen, too, even if you can't always see them." I know I gave this book a 4 stars and not a complete 5 but I really enjoyed this book and it was a huge step up in quality from Red Queen (Ms. Henry's only 3 star book) while not quite as spectacular as Alice (book 1) or Christina Henry's standalone book Lost Boy (6/5). I really enjoyed each of the novellas so I will give a brief review of each: Lovely Creature: A tale about Alice's sister Elizabeth and her encounter with the jabberwocky 4/5 Girl in Amber: A haunted house type story where Alice and Hatcher find themselves facing a naughty boy indeed 4/5 When I First Came to Town: Hatcher recounts his days as Nicholas in the fighting pits of the old city 5/5 The Mercy Seat: Hatcher and Alice try to find a home and run into zealous villagers 4.5/5 If you enjoyed my review please check out my YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@zacharyshaye”
Thumbs Up“I liked this book but it lacked a bit of the action I was used to from the first two books”
