First drink. First prank. First friend. First love.

Last words.

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words—and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet François Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps.” Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young, who will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A modern classic, this stunning debut marked #1 bestselling author John Green’s arrival as a groundbreaking new voice in contemporary fiction.

Newly updated edition includes a brand-new Readers' Guide featuring a Q&A with author John Green

“Although I didn’t care too much about the pacing of the book or the characters (realistic, believable even, but purposefully unlikeable) or the predictability of the plot, Looking for Alaska tackles the most important questions of what it means to live and why we should live and what lies before us. That said, a book that wrestles with those questions will never be neat or organized the way the ending of a rom-con is. But if you like stories with depth then you probably won’t mind the negatives that I pointed out. And I definitely don’t mind those either. Because if you look past the characters and pacing and whatever (which I think you should because I argue that Green made those things unlikeable for a reason, showcasing the ugly parts of the labyrinth and why we would want to escape it) it’s easy to see that Looking for Alaska could also be called, Looking for Meaning, Looking for What Happens in the Next Life, Looking for the Reason for Pain and Suffering, Looking for Happiness, Looking for an Escape etc. So to the readers, will you hide in a corner of the labyrinth or will you explore the Alaskas? This is the invite Green extends.”
Loudly Crying Face“I read this book when I was 16 and loved it so much it got five stars, I now reread it and gave it 4 stars. It has a nostalgic feel for me and that gives it a higher rating, better if you’re younger”
