“I really enjoyed Long Bright River for its ability to vividly set each scene. After a slew of murders plague the city Mickey patrols, she longs to reconnect with her sister. I felt completely immersed in Mickey’s search for her sister in Kensington, walking in step with her through every moment. The novel seamlessly shifts between past and present, offering deep insight into Mickey and Kacey’s complicated childhood relationship. The complexity of Mickey’s family dynamic—one she tries to avoid as a cop and new mom—adds another layer of tension, especially as her young son longs for connection and belonging. At times, Mickey feels surprisingly naïve for a police officer, despite the tragedies she has endured due to her sister’s addiction and the loss of their mother. Overall, I appreciated the steady pacing and how the story unfolded with a strong emotional pull.”Hailey VanRonzelen
