“This was a little experiment for me. I have never read a Christian based romantic suspense before. Going into it I was a little nervous because I didn’t know how religious it was going to get. I feared that this was going to get too preach hence why I avoided this genre, however that wasn’t the case at all in this one. Yes, there were mentions of God, faith, and praying, but it was scattered throughout the context of the story. There wasn’t an over saturation of those themes, which worked for me. I don’t if that’s true for all Christian romantic suspense stories, or if it was just this author’s particular flavor, but if more of these type of stories are like this then I might read a few more in the future.
The suspense/mystery in this story was phenomenal. I loved every single moment of that storyline. It started off right from the get go with Drake finding Kay and Caleb on that cliff and the rescuing them. It immediately intrigued me and made me want to know more especially with Kay having amnesia. Then it really was putty puzzle pieces of her identity together while dangerous people were after her and trying to figure out why. There were lots of twists and turns. There was a lot of action. There really was nice pacing that kept me on pins and needles. I just wanted answers. I was totally invested.
The romance was really sweet and lovely. I loved how over the course of the story showed them bonding and closer. Seeing them begin to care for one another was really adorable. I wasn’t expecting much for the romance especially since this was a Christian romance, but some of those scene were very sensual. For example, the way he touched her cheek or when he massaged her shoulders. I was for it. It was sexier than some of full blown love scenes that I read before. I really wasn’t expecting that. It was nice surprise.
I will say the declaration at the end as well as the proposal didn’t quite right. Although I did believe that they cared about one another and were starting to falling in love with each other, I didn’t believe they were quite at the stage where they were in love. Not yet anyway, but this was a romance so the happily ever had to happen even if it wasn’t quite believable.
Overall, I had a good time reading this book. I was here more for the suspense plot line then the romance, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I did like the romance. It was sweet and tender, but yet very sensual at the same time. It was less tame than I thought, but I wasn’t mad about it. The main draw was the suspense element, which was really what I enjoyed the most. I liked the twist and turns. I loved the danger element. I loved the urgency to get the answers so it would help combat the danger that Kay and Caleb were going through. The pacing was really good because it kept me on the edge of my seat especially as Kay was learning more and more about her identity. It just was really well done.
This book makes me want to try other books in this genre to see whether I like them as much as I did this one. I will be looking to do that in the new year.
*used this book for the prompt of mysterious character for the Hello 2022 Quarterly Reading Challenge from the Romance Readers Reading Challenge group on Goodreads. In this one Kay was a mysterious character because she had amnesia and was putting the pieces of her identity back together as well as why dangerous people were after her.”
