“i think anyone who writes or wants to write should read this memoir at least once in their life. it is an epic exploration of art in the face of war and destruction. garcía márquez’s passion for and commitment to literature during the colombian civil war proves how intrinsically linked politics and art are. particularly relevant in our current times. i love his writing style, but i did find parts of this to be a little convoluted/confusing and some characters were hard to keep track of. but he has had a truly magnificent life, and if you’re an artist looking for inspiration, i highly recommend “living to tell the tale.””

About Gabriel García Márquez
Gabriel García Márquez was born in Colombia in 1927. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. He is the author of many works of fiction and nonfiction, including One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love In The Time Cholera, The Autumn Of The Patriarch, The General In His Labyrinth, and News Of A Kidnapping. He died in 2014.
