Publisher Description

As a partner at one of New York's most prestigious law firms, Alexandra Parker barely manages to juggle husband, career, and the three-year-old child she gave birth to at forty.  But Alex feels blessed with her life and happy marriage--until lightning strikes her.  Suddenly a routine medical check-up turns her world upside down when tests reveal shattering news.

Sam Parker is a star venture capitalist, a Wall Street whiz kid, and is as proud of his longtime marriage to Alex as he is of his successful career.  As a major player in New York's financial world, Sam is used to being in control--until he is caught off guard by Alex's illness.  Terrified of losing his wife and family, and haunted by ghosts from his past, Sam is unable to provide any kind of emotional support to Alex.

Unable to cope with her needs, Sam takes his distance from her, and almost overnight she and Sam become strangers.  As lightning strikes them yet again, Sam's promising career suddenly explodes in disaster, and his very life and identity are challenged.  With their entire future hanging in the balance, Alex must decide what she feels for Sam, if life will ever be the same for them again, or if she must move on without him.

What happens to people when every aspect of their lives and well-being is threatened?  In Lightning, Danielle Steel tells the story of a family thrust into uncertainty and explores whether the bonds of love and marriage can withstand life's most unexpected bolts of lightning.

Red Angry Face“alr get ready for the rant. i haven’t been more angry at a book ever. first of all, i noticed the writing. this book was poorly written and it felt like a child wrote it, and i’ve heard only good things about this author so i had high expectations. the chapters - too damn long. in moments it felt right to stop the chapter in a certain part but it just kept going. now, let’s talk about the beginning. i hated that the main story of the first part was just about making kids. i understood some bits but have come to a conclusion that this book was not for me, as i read more ya romance that adult romance. anyhow it felt repetitive and i didn’t like the constant use of “making love” every second of the day. okay, the mmc. at the start i really liked him, and theeen we got to the half of the book. i understand that he had parent issues but he was 50 years old at that time. f i f t y. he behaved like a literal child. when alex got diagnosed with cancer, like his mother did, that ruined him but that was no excuse to what he did to his wife. her feelings were totally valid and sam was just ragebaiting us the whole second half of the book. like just bc your mom died of the same disease as your wife, of 18 yrs btw, has now, that doesn’t mean you have to cheat on her and throw her out of your life. she is still your wife (and also the mother of your child) and you’ve been togheter for so long that i fear it’s common sense to support her and take care of her and overcome your trauma as a grown man. even anabelle took the news better, a three year old btw. after they had anabelle, they wanted a second kid. why in the world would you want that when you couldn’t even handle the first one??? at last, the ending. as if the whole book wasn’t enough, the author wanted us to suffer even more. alex had a wonderful supporter by her side and she neglected him and fell for her ex husband who was horrible to her the whole time they had been togheter. i hated alex for this so much and was shocked by her choice in the end. if you want a book that has poor writing and a story that makes you so mad you want to punch someone, then this book is for you. 1⭐️”
Loudly Crying Face“I am reading all of Danielle Steel’s books in order of publication. They were my moms and she is the driving force of why and how I was able to fall in love with reading. Lightning was originally published in 1995 and is the 35th book (all stand alone). Easily the most annoying I have read by Danielle Steel. All three main characters need therapy. The MMC is a self centered a**hat that abandons his wife, the MFC, in her greatest time of need. The MFC is going through some major life changing events and when her a**hat husband leaves her high and dry she makes every excuse to him known to man 🙄. The secondary MC is low key scary - moving in on a woman in desperate need and lying to her about a similar situation and throwing jealous fits. The plot and story was still good as common to Danielle Steel it hits lots of the feels and deals with sensitive topics but lordy I couldn’t stand these character flaws.”
“The writing and flow is a 4/5* but the ending is so bad I can’t”
