Lightlark (Lightlark, #1)

By Alex Aster
Lightlark (Lightlark, #1) by Alex Aster digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Welcome to the Centennial.

Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons—a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm’s curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.

Isla Crown is the young ruler of Wildling—a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and are counting on Isla to end their suffering by succeeding at the Centennial.

To survive, Isla must lie, cheat, and betray…even as love complicates everything.

Expressionless Face“This fantasy book is about six rulers who must compete in a deadly game to break a curse that plagues their lands. The concept and twists throughout the book were promising….but I wish the main character was stronger and that the last 20 pages didn’t just word vomit a bunch of twists.”
Slightly Smiling Face“I almost didn’t get past the first few pages. The beginning felt…juvenile, rushed. But I pushed through and found it to be better than I expected.”
Expressionless Face“Almost DNF this one. I was almost halfway through the book and the premise of the contest was still confusing. Lots of plot holes. It wasn’t until the last 10% of the book where things actually happen. I might read the next book just to find out what happens, but this was frustrating overall. I’m disappointed because I really LOVE the artwork. lol Really wanted to love the book too.”
