“Originally posted on http://bookandlatte.com : Letters to Elise was a treat to read, and a must for fans of the My Blood Approves Series! I really liked Peter and was fascinated with his character when I read the first three books in the series a couple of years ago. In the other books, you only get to know Peter from Alice’s perspective. So I enjoyed learning more about Peter through his letters that he writes to his first love, Elise, before and after her death. This novella begins with Peter being transformed into a vampire by Erza, and spans ~150 years to when the series takes place in present day. The letters he writes to Elise over the years takes you through how they met, their relationship, and how he felt once she died. The letters also touch on existing through the famine, and how he fought in all the wars. You also learn about his relationship with his maker Erza, and how they are bonded. My favorite thing about this novella was getting the backstory on how Erza, Peter, Mae, and Jack became a family. I also liked hearing how Peter felt once he met Alice as Jack’s friend/girlfriend. It was satisfying to learn how they all came together – fans will not be disappointed! I listened to the audiobook of Letters to Elise, which is narrated by Hannah Friedman. I really like her voice; she has a great tone and nice inflection. However, I’m still baffled why she narrated Letters to Elise. It’s told from Peter’s point of view. I was thrown at first because a female was narrating the story told in a male’s perspective. I eventually got over this, and enjoyed the audiobook. I do think it’s great that she narrates all the other books in the series, and I’ll be looking for other books that she performs. I highly recommend Letter to Elise for fans of My Blood Approves! It’s a wonderful companion to the series.”
