Letters to a Young Poet
ByPublisher Description
The ten letters collected here are arguably the most famous and beloved letters of our century. Written when Rainer Maria Rilke was himself still a young man with most of his greatest work before him, they are addressed to a student who had sent Rilke some of his work, asking for advice about becoming a writer. The two never met, but over a period of several years Rilke wrote him these ten letters, which have been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of readers for what Stephen Mitchell calls the "vibrant and deeply felt experience of life" that informs them.

“lots of interesting, semi-inspiring little bits here. sure, some of it is dated (bio-essentialism especially), but i think it's sincerity and genuineness keep these from overshadowing its overall positive and holistic sentiments. lots to say about how to approach the difficulties of life, specifically how to incorporate solitude as a boon to one's growth. i definitely don't think this as revelatory as some purport it to be, but it certainly has a lot of inspiring wisdom :)”
“Reading Rilke is such a delight and I needed this to be reminded that things in my life will come to pass because no feeling is final. I've been feeling down (May my enemy) so I needed this little pick me up. I almost cried reading this because again, it spoke to me. Hay Rilke, poetry, art, and literature really does help you cope in life”
“Definitely going to revisit Letter Seven at some point.”
