Why read on Fable?
Publisher Description
“The guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but he who causes the darkness.”
“So long as ignorance and poverty exist on earth, books of the nature of Les Misérables cannot fail to be of use,” says Victor Hugo in the preface of his famous novel. Certainly, Les Misérables is French history recounted through the personal stories of its main characters. The tale offers philosophical insight on the good deeds that can happen even amidst ignorance and poverty. This handsome volume is a beautiful addition to any classic literature library.

“Victor Hugo's Les Misérables represents a literary masterpiece, unquestionably one of the most exquisite works of fiction I have ever read. From the opening to the final page, I was wholly enraptured by the profound depth of the narrative, the remarkable richness of the characters, and the magnificent descriptions. Hugo's portrayal of the Bishop was particularly affecting, as it conveyed a sense of kindness and humanity that set a powerful tone for the entire book. Hugo's portrayal of the scenery was meticulously crafted, and his character descriptions were so intricately detailed that it was as if they were real people that I know personally.
My favourite characters are Javert, Jean Prouvaire (dear little Jehan), the Bishop, Joly and Enjolras. Each of the characters contributed a unique element to the narrative, and their deaths broke my heart, in particular Jean Prouvaire - I sobbed as I read his last moments. This quiet, poetic soul deserved so much better, and I'll never stop mourning him. It is Hugo's remarkable ability to evoke such raw and powerful emotion that renders this book unforgettable.
Furthermore, the historical background is another aspect of the novel that I found particularly engaging. The text offers a wealth of insights and information, and although the section on the Battle of Waterloo was relatively lengthy, it was still an absorbing read. Nevertheless, some of Hugo's digressions, such as the one on the Parisian sewer system or the detailed examination of the convent, extended beyond the optimal duration. Sorry, Hugo, but I wasn't a fan of those sections.
Still, I cannot recommend Les Misérables enough. The novel is an exemplary account of redemption, love, and justice that leaves a profound and enduring impression upon the reader long after the final page has been turned. I love this book with all my heart and I'll never stop talking about it. I would rate this book 10 out of 5 - no, actually it's 11 out of 5. It's just that extraordinary.”
