“Ali runs to the aid of a former police academy friend who was gunned down during a routine traffic stop. However, all evidence points to him being involved with the drug cartel. Also in the hospital is a Jane Doe found beaten and burned with cigarettes presumed to be an illegal border crosser.
This is my first book in the series. At first, I found it hard to get into as drugs and illegals are not my thing but it wasn't about that. The attempted murderers were much more interesting than I first presumed. The story quickly got very interesting and read quickly. A lot of backstory is mentioned with no spoilers as far as I could tell. Most of all though I fell in love with the characters, especially Sister Anselm, a taser carrying none, who works as a patient advocate. I'm certainly going back to read this series in order.”
