“Idk what to say this book is crazy and I kind of hated it but I couldn’t put it down and I recommend you read it (?)”
“You have to go into this book understanding it’s a satire to get any enjoyment out of it, but the main character Barry was a complete asshole and very out of touch. He gets too overwhelmed with his autistic son and leaves to travel around the country on a Greyhound bus, abandoning his wife to take care of his child. Barry’s adventures are too crude and unrealistic for my taste, like doing crack with a trucker at a rest stop and giving him a blowjob, then waking up to find the trucker dead. I see the author’s attempt at satire to show that Barry is trying to get the “average American” experience when really it’s a catalog of the most obscure things that could happen on this adventure. Barry is also clearly autistic too, which does make him somewhat redeemable but not really.”
