“4.5⭐️
I really enjoyed this book and i couldn't put it down (if i fail my exam i'll know why).
I loved the characters and their growth; first of all i related to Sloane too much lmao, the universe is conspiring against me because this is the second book i read in less than a week with a fmc who has trust issues and believes she's unlovable.
"I’m afraid that, if you get to know the real me, you’ll find me unlovable like everyone else"
Anyway I liked how she confronted her family, despite I wanted her to put her father in his place (not only her sister, brother in law and stepmum), but most of all i appreciated her development:
she realized she deserved being loved and accepted Xavier's love; she let her hair down (figuratively and literally), enjoying her life and putting work aside thanks to Xavier's help.
I wished I looked half as good doing nothing as Xavier does.
Despite being a lazy hedonistic nepo baby who doesn't care about anything except partying, he actually took time and put effort into getting to know Sloane and remembering little things about her (her clothes, her food preference ecc); i love when characters remember little details about the other. His development was really good, he found something worth of his time and stimulating enough that he didn't do it to earn his inheritance or gave up because fear of failure, but because he really wanted to create something for himself.
I liked their relationship, it was something different because they first started dating and the hooking up (something i don't read often).
I loved the dates Xavier organized and how they were there for each other in difficult moments even if their relationship was still new and fresh. There were two things i didn't like tho:
- the pacing: they start dating at 40% when I expected a slow burn, especially being Sloane a closed off person (the book is more than 400 pages long so it happened around 200 pages in and in my opinion it was soon)
- the third act breakup was unnecessary: their feelings were clear so the conflict could have not happened, but i get the reasons
"She was so fucking beautiful it almost hurt to look at her. I wondered if she knew that.
I wondered if she knew how much she occupied my thoughts and how I counted down the minutes to seeing her again when we were apart.
I wondered if I’d upended her life the way she had mine, to the point where the pieces would no longer fit if she weren’t there, because she wasn’t a pit stop; she was the destination."
"Every version of my happily ever after will always include some version of you.”
A thing I also don't understand is that in two different occasions both Xavier and Sloane recognize two people in the crowd but at the end we don't know who they are, their purpose and role in the story. So the thing is: we'll know something more in the next book or is it something the author forgot to explain? lol
Otherwise I enjoyed the story and I noticed that Ana's writing improved, plus I loved the cameos from he previous (and future) books, even just their mention.
ps. i want to know more about Vuk and Ayana, he's so mysteriously hot”
