Just Last Night

By Mhairi McFarlane
Just Last Night by Mhairi McFarlane digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

"I cannot remember the last book I loved as much... a luminous, heart-achingly beautiful love letter to friendship. Knockout!" — Josie Silver, New York Times bestselling author

International bestseller Mhairi McFarlane explores lifelong friendships, long-buried secrets, and unexpected love in a heartfelt, emotional new novel, perfect for fans of Evvie Drake Starts Over, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, or In Five Years.

Eve, Justin, Susie, and Ed have been friends since they were teenagers. Now in their thirties, the four are as close as ever, Thursday night bar trivia is sacred, and Eve is still secretly in love with Ed. Maybe she should have moved on by now, but she can’t stop thinking about what could have been. And she knows Ed still thinks about it, too.

But then, in an instant, their lives are changed forever.

In the aftermath, Eve’s world is upended. As stunning secrets are revealed, she begins to wonder if she really knew her friends as well as she thought. And when someone from the past comes back into her life, Eve’s future veers in a surprising new direction...

They say every love story starts with a single moment. What if it was just last night?

"[A] book I almost wish I’d written, except that would have robbed me of the intense joy of reading it... the kind of novel that will have you putting everything else on hold so you can keep turning pages until you reach its sparkling, brilliant end.” — Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author of People We Meet on Vacation

“3.5 i wanted to LOVE this book. i went into it thinking it was going to be a beautiful love story with a side plot of grief over a friend’s death. but the romance was teeny tiny. this read more like a literary fiction. which is fine if that’s what you were in the mood for, but i wanted romance. i liked the beginning of the book and reading ed & eve’s back story. but then the middle draggggeeeeeddddd on for a while. once finlay and eve go to scotland to look for fin’s dad, the story picked up again. it strangely felt like i was reading two separate books. the story and the plot took a complete detour which was jarring. it felt a little disjointed at times and thinking back to some of the beginning scenes feels like an entirely different book. i never felt super invested and it wasn’t a book that i wanted to keep coming back to. there was a lot to like about it still though. i tabbed a LOT of quotes from here and there was parts of the writing that were so beautiful. the ending was redeeming and i love that eve stood up for herself when it came to ed. i really did love the romance aspect but it took place in like the last 30 pages which was disappointing. after reading about fin’s past with his dad i wanted to give that man a hug 🥺. my favorite quote: “it’s like my whole life was about traveling back to you” 🔥SPICE🔥 no open door spice scenes. there is a scene with some ~awkward~ foreplay and a few sexual references throughout. 🤐LANGUAGE🤐 frequent use of the F word and occasional use of other swear words”
