Juliet, Naked
ByPublisher Description
NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING ETHAN HAWKE AND ROSE BYRNE
From the beloved New York Times bestselling author, a quintessential Nick Hornby tale of music, superfandom, and the truths and lies we tell ourselves about life and love.
Annie finds herself caught in the web of a relationship with Duncan, who adores Tucker Crowe, a reclusive singer-songwriter who vanished from the music scene years ago. As Annie's love for Duncan fades, an unexpected email correspondence with Tucker sparks a connection between two searching souls.
What happens when a washed-up musician looks for another chance? And miles away, a restless, childless woman looks for a change? Juliet, Naked is a powerfully engrossing, humblingly humorous novel about music, love, loneliness, and the struggle to live up to one’s promise.

“What a fun journey this was! I love the tone, the quippy dry humor, the flawed but lovable characters. It took me a minute to really prioritize it and get through it, but it got me after a while.”
“Ok I’m writing this extra pissed off because I did a whole review and it didn’t save. Here’s some notes I made while reading:
Duncan is autistic. And the treatment of such traits in the film is what made me originally dislike it, and the book is no better. It should be noted that I read the entire book visualising the cast of the film, and it seems like Chris O’Dowd was perfect casting.
Pretty much every character is unlikeable? That might be the point but it makes for an unsympathetic read from me.
It doesn’t provide valuable commentary towards fandom culture and parasociality because you don’t know whether or not youre meant to like Duncan or Annie or Tucker or none of them.
An annoying air of misogyny and somewhat archaic expectations of the father/husband role. And was the character Ros an attempt to make Annie seem less male-centred? Combined with the uncomfortable presentation of the ex-wives and the almost needy, emotional presentation of the daughters, I’m not sure Nick Hornby likes women.
The random pregnancy thing? What? The ending is fine, I guess? What happened with Grace? Just a big fat loose end of a book. I like parts I suppose but ugh”
