Jedi Twilight: Star Wars Legends (Coruscant Nights, Book I)
ByPublisher Description
With the dark ascension of the Empire, and the Jedi Knights virtually wiped out, one Jedi who escaped the massacre is slated for a date with destiny–and a confrontation with Darth Vader.
Jax Pavan is one of the few Jedi Knights who miraculously survived the slaughter that followed Palpatine’s ruthless Order 66. Now, deep in Coruscant’ s Blackpit Slums, Jax ekes out a living as a private investigator, trying to help people in need while concealing his Jedi identity and staying one step ahead of the killers out for Jedi blood. And they’re not the only ones in search of the elusive Jax. Hard-boiled reporter Den Dhur and his buddy, the highly unorthodox droid I-5YQ, have shocking news to bring Jax–about the father he never knew.
But when Jax learns that his old Jedi Master has been killed, leaving behind the request that Jax finish a mission critical to the resistance, Jax has no choice but to emerge from hiding–and risk detection by Darth Vader–to fulfill his Master’s dying wish.
Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

This is the first Star Wars novel that seemed to go out of its way...to break "canon". I doubt that the author had this in mind, for he was expanding the lore of the Force, but most of what he introduces...doesn't make sense (larger scheme of things).
I applaud his spirit, but I kept shaking my head...as I read this tale. Why would you do this/that? That doesn't really make sense. This "thing" that he introduces actually nullifies this/that. Mind bogglingly effective at destroying the understanding of what the Jedi believe and why they do things.
Full transperancy, I'm reading this after YEARS of reading Star Wars: Legends and Disney Canon novels. This story was fun and had interesting characters...that I will continue to root for, but the Lore that has been built within the Star Wars franchise is at odds with a LOT of what this author is doing (and I'm okay with that, knowing that I will read this series...take the good that I enjoy, and forget the rest). This is a LONG journey of reading Star Wars novels...and I'm not going to get "tripped up" with this novel's use of the Force.
I like Jax Pavan, and why he wasn't able to reach the Force. That didn't bother me.
I really like I-5, too. It is always good to have a "sidekick" that has ways to protect itself.
...and the rest of the characters are added/negatives as you receive them.
I am glad that their time around Darth Vader was minimal, for this is when he was/is at his most brutal...and any confrontations with him...our "heroes" are supposed to lose. Just the way it goes.
The defining decision that the crew makes...is an interesting choice, but the title of the series was what I kept thinking about...when they were wavering. Hmmm.
On to the next book in this series. Might be in 2025. Just saying.”

“Good book!
Back to my chronological star wars read, and seeing the dark side of coruscant after the Jedi were basically eradicated was a nice sight to see, and Jax Paving is an interesting Jedi character who I can't wait to carry on with, and see how Nick deals with the betrayal after what happened to him in his near death experience. Let's see why Vader wants Jax so much, cause it is said he wants him alive, we'll see 5/5 Amazon/Goodreads/fable.”
