Jane Goes Batty
ByPublisher Description
After two hundred years undead, Jane Austen still has bite. But will her most recent literary success be her last?
Life was a lot easier for Jane when she was just an unknown, undead bookstore owner in a sleepy hamlet in upstate New York. But now the world embraces her as Jane Fairfax, author of the bestselling novel Constance—and she’s having a killer time trying to keep her true identity as the Jane Austen a secret. Even the ongoing lessons in How to Be a Vampire, taught by her former lover Lord Byron, don’t seem to be helping much. Jane can barely focus on her boyfriend, Walter, while keeping him in the dark about her more sanguine tastes.
To make matters worse, Walter announces that his mother is coming for a visit—and she’s expecting Jane to be Jewish. Add in a demanding new editor, a convention of romance readers in period costume, a Hollywood camera crew following Jane’s every move, and the constant threat of a certain bloodsucking Brontë sister coming back to finish her off, and it’s enough to make even the most well-mannered heroine go batty!

“March 2011 review for library's website...
What would Jane Austen do if she were still alive today? Why, she'd run a book store and have finally published another novel. In Jane Goes Batty, 2nd book in a 3 book series, author Michael Thomas Ford has Jane working on her vampire skills. This isn't your average vampire novel so please don't shy away from the series if you don't like vampires. If you like Jane Austen you'll most likely like this novel. Her being a vampire is really a secondary thing. It just explains why she is still alive today. I think Ford does a good job at catching Jane's "voice". She is almost exactly how I would picture her if she lived in the 21st century. In this novel Jane has some major problems. She is in love but doesn't want to reveal to her boyfriend that she's a vampire and while struggling with that decision her boyfriend decides Jane should meet his mother. Jane is overwhelmed by the pressure. Plus there's a film crew in town filming a movie version of Jane's latest novel...except the screenplay is a butchered version of her novel. There's only so much that one girl (even a girl vampire) can take. There are also appearances from other authors that were turned into vampires. It really is a funny treat for fans of the authors of the past. Before reading this one you should read Jane Bites Back. The 3rd novel Jane Vows Vengeance hasn't been published yet.”
