Iron Flame

By Rebecca Yarros
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity.” —Xaden Riorson

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College—Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits—and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College—and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

Red Angry Face“This book was incredibly frustrating to me. It felt like character development (Violet’s especially) went backwards. She made bad decisions, was easily tricked, and was generally annoying outside of sexy times and battles. I felt like a lot of things regarding the magic was really unclear / not well-explained either. All that being said I will continue to read this series because the dragons are BAE (Andarna is the bestest), Xaden is a hottie even if he’s cursed now, and I am so happy that no one from the squad was lost to the venin.”

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“I am so excited for the next book! I really enjoyed this book. I love the characters and I was shocked at all the secrets that were revealed in this book. The ending really caught me off guard. I loved how Endarna became the dragon she was. Great addition. Really good book it’s a must read.”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“The wait to get my hands on this book almost killed me. Once I started this book, it was a full on race to the end. Once I started, I had to know how it ended. Again, Yarros has written a phenomenal magical masterpiece. I cannot wait to get my hands on the third book!”

Anxious Face with sweat“I finished this book yesterday, and now I have collect myself a bit just to do this review… The book overall is not bad, but I think that Fourth wing will forever hold a special place in my heart. (SPOILER?) I saw the twists in the end coming, since there’s going to be five books. I think the third one will be a masterpiece since this whole book feels like a build up. I would recommend it though, but if you want to be able to sleep, eat and live a normal life I would recommend you to stop reading at page 406 in Fourth Wing ant totally skip this book.”

I appreciate it when authors don't feel the need to over-explain each setting and instead focus on story plot and character dialogue. Spicy scenes were excellent. I fell more and more in love with each character throughout the read. Can't wait for the next one!”
