Inside Man

By K. J. Parker
Inside Man by K. J. Parker digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

K. J. Parker returns to the amoral world of Prosper’s Demon with a wry, sardonic novella that flips the eternal, rule-governed battle between men and demons on its head.

An anonymous representative of the Devil, once a high-ranking Duke of Hell and now a committed underachiever, has spent the last forever of an eternity leading a perfectly tedious existence distracting monks from their liturgical devotions. It’s interminable, but he prefers it that way, now that he’s been officially designated by Downstairs as “fragile.” No, he won’t elaborate.

All that changes when he finds himself ensnared, along with a sadistic exorcist, in a labyrinthine plot to subvert the very nature of Good and Evil. In such a circumstance, sympathy for the Devil is practically inevitable.

At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Rolling on the Floor Laughing Face“"Sometimes, one has to be kind to be cruel, after all." I loved the humour and the concept of this book. Truly, I was completely enamored. If you don’t know (and how would you know, I wonder), I am a huge fan of all the possible discussions that religion, faith and power can create when intertwined. I have literally written my Master’s thesis on Faith and Power, so Inside Man (just like Prosper's Demon - the first novella) beautifully scratched an itch. And the itch was scratched even more thoroughly specifically because of the snarky humour present in this short novella. That little demon (the main character) really knew how to make me giggle. What a pleasure it was, what a breath of fresh air! I just found myself a bit lost sometimes when it came to the plot, but that’s just a detail. All in all this incredibly short novella touched upon many interesting topics (such as morality, faith, free will, fate, power) in a wonderful and funny way. What a treat 😚👌🏻 "With enemies like mine, after all, who needs friends?"”
