Not so very long ago, Eragon—Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider—was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders.

Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must defeat Galbatorix. There will be no second chances. The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaësia? And if so, at what cost?

“Finished Inheritance! One step closer to finally reading Murtagh! . Let’s start off with a rating of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and then some *spoilers* to go along with it. This is going to sound like I had a lot of problems with the book, but I promise I still loved it overall 😅 . First, and I think this is the biggest thing that goes into my rating for Inheritance and for Brisingr, but this could have been at least 250 pages shorter. Or those pages could have been better used. . Paolini spent a lot of time in these last two books on things that were not important enough to spend that long on. The ending of this one especially could have been considerably shorter. Pacing was definitely an issue at the beginning for this book. . Once we defeat Galbatorix, we could have wrapped everything else up in 40 pages…instead it’s drawn out for another almost 120 pages. I understand that as this is the last book Paolini wanted to wrap everything up in a nice little bow, but it was excessive. Those pages easily could have been used elsewhere. . Nesuada becoming queen and Arya getting a dragon AND becoming queen of the elves was fine, but not my favorite. It felt a little too idyllic of an ending for both characters. . While I was excited initially that there were more dragon eggs, this too felt a little too like a forced happy ending. Had Saphira, Thorn, and the one egg been the last of the dragons, it would have made the story of the dragon riders a tragedy and I feel like that’s an element missing from this series. . Magic is able to do a lot in these books. As Eragon learned more and became stronger, he relied heavily on magic to solve most of his problems. I feel like the tragedy of not having more dragon eggs would have really shown that magic can’t do/fix everything, but alas, this is not the case. . Eragon needing to face Galbatorix without magic would have been amazing if only it hadn’t been snatched away at the last second with him managing to curse Galbatorix. . Roran, again, is so massively overpowered for being just some guy from a farm. I didn’t feel like his perspective really added anything new to this one though, which was a little disappointing. It was slightly more interesting than in the last book, but it was just more battles, nothing new. . The story line with Nesuada and Murtagh didn’t really make sense to me. There wasn’t enough groundwork for that one, it felt a little out of nowhere and ended up going nowhere. I am hoping reading Murtagh will fill the gaps in this. I thought Murtagh’s ending though was right for his character. . And despite all the issues I had, I still really enjoyed reading this book. This felt like a fitting conclusion and it remains one of my favorite series.”
