In the Sight of Akresa by Ray Wood digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Claire's lover has no tongue. A slave liberated from a heathen temple, Aya cannot tell the story of her stolen voice, or of her and Claire's unfolding love. She cannot speak her pain, her joy, or her sorrow. And if she sees that which eludes the blind goddess of justice, she cannot bear witness. "In the Sight of Akresa" is a tragic fantasy romance from debut author Ray Wood.

In the Sight of Akresa Reviews

3.5
“In the Sight of Akresa is a heartbreaking tale of love and betrayal between the daughter of a duke and a tongueless slave. That's the short, spoiler-free way to sum up the story, anyway. The strongest point of this story is definitely the ending, especially if you read everything leading up to that point as a sincere love story. The relationship between Claire and Aya is so sweet and built up so well that when the ending comes around, the shock of how things play out hurts. Over the course of the story, while Aya remains something of a mystery, Claire acts as the narrator, so every step of the way the reader knows exactly where Claire stands. From her point of view, there was definitely something beautiful and sweet between the two of them - even if Aya couldn't say it. You know, since her tongue got cut out. And since she may or may not understand Claire's native language. So while I wasn't necessarily surprised by the way the short ended, it did still hurt. I think I mentioned that already, though. None of that is to discredit the rest of the story - the small details of world building and characterization dropped throughout Claire's narration. The entire thing was just beautiful. The fact that this is a debut story is just astonishing.”
“okay wtf was that ending fuck off Rep: wlw mc, mute li”
