Publisher Description

Forensic psychologist Annie Hunter runs a PI agency. She pits her talented "Nut Crackers" team against Tommy Ray Bruder, who'd snatched her best friend, Hailey, when Annie was 14. Annie made a pledge back then to find her. Bruder was caught for another crime, but he refused to say what happened to Hailey. From prison, he's been writing coded poems to entice podcasters to get him released. These same codes offer Annie new clues for locating Hailey, but she must do this before Bruder walks free. Her efforts provoke Bruder's former partner, a dangerous man with his own damage path. Annie's promise to find Hailey imperils her entire team.

“This book is a lot. I feel as though the amount of characters in this book made it hard to follow who played what role in these crazy cases. Cases that you knew were destined to tie together at some point it was just a matter of when/how. I did find the twists and turns interesting! Although, the constant need to pause to remember who these people were in reference to the story and each other was off putting.”
“This was an interesting mix of thriller, mystery, and a pinch of paranormal. It kept my attention until the end and enjoyed it while reading.”

“I really enjoyed In the Damage Path. It feels like Bones or Scarpetta books both of which I love. I feel like there should probably be a little more character development with the main characters. I really liked seeing new and interesting investigative techniques interspersed with mystical elements. Learning about Remove Viewing through the story was compelling and entertaining. Also. seeing things like utilizing the drones and sniffer dogs to locate decomposition in foliage. It made for a great balance within the story. Another aspect I really enjoyed was bringing in elements from true crime. It made the story feel more real. I saw through GoodReads that the author has a background in forensic psychology and criminal justice. You can feel this in the writing. It's knowledgeable but approachable as a mainstream reader. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.”
