Hope Harcourt’s twin brother Nate is recovering in a hospital and needs someone to protect Hope from the nasty paparazzi while he’s not around, especially now that Hope puts herself forward as her family’s prominent business’ CEO. Offered a deal he can’t refuse, Luca Calvino is hired to do the job, although he usually doesn’t do the bodyguard stuff because he’s the CEO of his own security company, keeping himself in the background for his own personal reasons. As soon as they meet, Hope and Luca felt highly attracted to each other but they fight with all their might to not give into temptation.
Hope’s life is in the spotlight. Luca needs to be behind the scenes. What will happen when their feelings for each other start to grow, and their affair becomes part of a dirty fight for the CEO position, threatening Hope and Luca’s carefully constructed lives?
Luca and Hope’s interactions, first as employee and employer, then as lovers, is full of chemistry and sexual tension. Their struggles to keep each other at arm’s length is intense, palpable, and so steamy it could burn this book’s pages. At the same time, when they start to trust each other, displaying their respective vulnerabilities, is where their romance is more credible. That said, I didn’t liked the blackmail subterfuge to separate them. Oh, Ms. Roscoe justified it perfectly and in the plot’s context is the best way to keep the storyline running, but I didn’t felt it as natural as it should be.
Ms. Roscoe is a great storyteller, she knows how to create a world every time she writes a book, and this one is a fantastic example of it. What catches my attention is the fact that the plot gives you the feeling that it’s incomplete; as if there’s more in this story to tell. And hey, the book has a prologue and a perfect epilogue. Yet I had the vibe that there’s something missing in the story. And why I can’t keep thinking Nate’s story needs to be told? Maybe we can have it in the near future, or at some moment next year? Just saying…
Even though that vibe, this is a well written and developed story with strong, fierce main characters with tons of personality and a chemistry that’s off the charts.
