“This is an incredible memoir. I think most of us who come from immigrant families can understand the desire to reconnect with your historical roots, and Delphine Minoui details this journey so well. I definitely got goosebumps and cried at the end. In addition, I learned about a beautiful country whose people are the epitome of resilient. And I witnessed a true love for country as shown by Iranians of all kinds in this book, even Mahmoud who is a basiji and part of the morality police. It's unfortunately a poor substitute for traveling to the country, but I cannot do that as a white athiest single woman. Another thing I was very curious about throughout the whole book was Delphine's courage and ability to walk right into tense and sometimes downright dangerous situations. Maybe in another book she'll discuss more of the psychology of that, but for now this book is a gift and window into a beautiful country that rarely is on the minds of those in west except for in war reporting.”
