A chance to rewrite their ending is worth the risk in this swoony romantic comedy from Kosoko Jackson.

It’s been months since aspiring journalist Kian Andrews has heard from his ex-boyfriend, Hudson Rivers, but an urgent text has them meeting at a café. Maybe Hudson wants to profusely apologize for the breakup. Or confess his undying love. . . But no, Hudson has a favor to ask—he wants Kian to pretend to be his boyfriend while his parents are in town, and Kian reluctantly agrees.

The dinner doesn’t go exactly as planned, and suddenly Kian is Hudson’s plus one to Georgia’s wedding of the season. Hudson comes from a wealthy family where reputation is everything, and he really can’t afford another mistake. If Kian goes, he’ll help Hudson preserve appearances and get the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in media. This could be the big career break Kian needs.

But their fake relationship is starting to feel like it might be more than a means to an end, and it’s time for both men to fact-check their feelings.

“2⭐️ Subtley toxic nonsense. I didn’t love this. While there were some parts that did make me chuckle, this book was meh at best. I Wanted to be enthusiastic about a new queer author but there were sooo many pop trend references that had me lost. Then, Hudson Rivers…. Hated him. I was NOT rooting for him at all. I wanted Kian to find a respectful young man who isn’t a spoiled little shit. Hudson lying to his parents about himself is fine. Hudson asking Kian not to be himself to impress his parents is insane. Hudson is belittling and mocking and because he is so unapologetic about his duchy behavior, all the “cute” moments mean very little to me. For a journalist, Kian doesn’t ask nearly enough questions and a lot of the time when he does ask questions they aren’t the right ones. I wanna know the relevant answers! Why did you disappear and dump him randomly with no explanation or goodbye? What has changed that would make it so that you don’t do the same shit twice? Why should I trust you? Why be indifferent and borderline rude in the past? Why are you so afraid to be yourself with LITERALLY EVERYONE? Why would I think who you are with me is who you really are? Honestly, there was no incentive for Kian to give him another chance at a real relationship. The fake dating for money/opportunity? Fine. But really taking him back so easily was dumb. He was THE REASON for the breakup but Hudson’s SISTER had to go to Kian and ask him to go and prostrate himself to Hudson because of toxic masculinity. That was literally the sister’s excuse as to why Hudson had bitch sauce sprinkled on him. I’m in agreement with Divia on this. Don’t trust this man.”
