“way that made me recoil from the pages a few times, the dialogue goes between being sincere and well-done to messy and unrealistic a TON of times, the art style is nice at first but eventually seems to just take away detail from certain scenes and characters (mainly the fact that every single character has the exact same pale pink skin tone except for a few dark-skinned characters who only had a skin tone that was like…two shades darker? the most detail was put into making the food look delicious which was an interesting detail in a story about a girl with an eating disorder, and was one of the elements i actually really liked from this), and both the characters and the plot are super undercooked/underdeveloped. there was also a LOT of really aggressive tonal whiplash (i.e a happy lively dream immediately cutting to the tragedy discussed in the plot synopsis, a very random and unconvincing usage of the word “fuck”, and issues between characters getting resolved too easily and quickly to serve the plot). just strange vibes all around in this book. could be an important read for teens, but didn’t work for me at all.”anarielf

“I know it talks about mental health and eating disorder, but with superficial exploration to those topics, and simpler dialogues, so I believe it fits more to be targeted at a younger audience than me, maybe they will connect and relate more to the story.

Victoria Ying is an author and artist living in Los Angeles. She started her career in the arts by falling in love with comic books, which eventually turned into a career working in animation and graphic novels. She loves Japanese curry, putting things in her shopping cart online and taking them out again, and hanging out with her dopey dog. Her film credits include Frozen, Moana, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, and Paperman. She the illustrator of the DC Comics graphic novel Diana: Princess of the Amazons and the author and illustrator of her original graphic novels City of Secrets, and Hungry Ghost.
