“Ummm…I’m conflicted, because we’re a book household. Reading is basically a personality trait in my home. But as the adult reading this one out loud, I kept feeling a little confused, like the story wanted to be whimsical and smooth, but the transitions didn’t always land for me.
I read this with all my kids (ages 3–9), and they all landed in the same place. When I asked what they liked, none of them could really tell me much beyond, “the pictures.” Which honestly says a lot, because usually at least one of them can name a favorite part, a funny moment, something.
That said, the illustrations are beautiful. And in our house, that ended up being the main win, and pretty much the only thing they carried with them after we closed the book.”
