“it took me so long to actually get immersed in this book. the political statements are not good for my brain to focus. instead of focusing on the plot, i have so many moments of having a lot to say politically.
i picked this book out of a discount pile without looking up anything about it. only reading 1 part of the book.
i expected a twist but the end was such an epic tragedy that i have to take a break every single chapter.
but overall this is such a marmite book in my opinion, i loved hefty dense book so this one is quite good. the story is so tragic but borderline realistic as in ‘this could happen’.”

Kamila Shamsie is the author of several previous novels, including Broken Verses and Burnt Shadows. She has been a finalist for the Man Booker Prize, the Orange Prize (twice) and the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, among other honors, and has been named one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She was raised in Karachi and lives in London.
